LASG WARNS THE PUBLIC TO DESIST FROM ILLEGAL SAND MINING AND DAMAGING OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
The Management team of New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Lands Bureau and Ministry of Waterfront & Infrastructure were on a joint site monitoring to Government schemes within the Lekki corridors to checkmate some environmental nuisance perpetrated by illegal sand miners.
Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Mr.Bode Agoro;Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront, Mrs. Folashade Fasheun and Director, Engineering Services Department (NTDA); Engr.Adenrele Oni frowned at the atrocities committed by those criminals who engaged in illegal sand mining which also damage government properties in the process.
The visit to the Government owned schemes exposed the environmental degradation caused by the nonchalant attitude of the miners which has continued to hinder the natural flow of water to its channels.
They also engage in the use of dredgers to widen the narrow creeks and in the process cause overflow of water to other landed properties within the area.
The monitoring team also inspected the Rainbow Mixed Development Scheme, Moremi Scheme, Okun-Ajah adjoining Lekki Scheme II, Fairmont Garden Scheme and Monastery at Sangotedo all in Lekki environment.
